How we verify

This page explains how information reaches Nepal Relief Hub, what “verified” means here, and where the limits are.

What “verified” means here

Information is entered and reviewed by authorized Nepal Relief Hub reviewers. What “verified” means depends on what is being verified.

Source-backed factual items. For source-backed factual items, verification means a Nepal Relief Hub reviewer checked the item against the cited source and recorded that check in the hub. It does not mean independently confirmed in the field, confirmed with every organization, or guaranteed to be accurate. A source can be mistaken or out of date, and so can we.

Donation destinations. For donation destinations, the verification check is different: the link must use HTTPS and its hostname must exactly match one of the official hostnames Nepal Relief Hub reviewers have recorded for that organization. This does not mean the organization endorsed Nepal Relief Hub, that the destination is guaranteed safe, or that Nepal Relief Hub can guarantee how funds will be used.

Factual records keep their source

Updates, priorities, figures and organization roles each cite a source document, and are shown with that source so you can read it yourself. A record that makes a claim cannot be published without one. The database also refuses to publish content that rests only on a source in the lowest tier of the hub's source classification. See the list of sources. A source appearing there does not mean Nepal Relief Hub endorses everything its publisher says.

Reported figures and conflicting reports

Figures are shown exactly as the source worded them, with the source and the date they are reported as of. Nepal Relief Hub does not measure impact itself.

When sources report different figures, each one stays a separate entry. The hub does not add them together, average them or choose one as correct, because sources can differ in date, scope or method.

What appears on public pages

Only records that are publicly eligible are shown: published, verified, and not past their expiry or review date, and only where the disaster, source or organization they depend on is also public. This is enforced in the database, not by hiding items on the page.

Review and expiry rules can hide stale content. Expired, withdrawn or past-review content can disappear from public pages without anyone editing the page. Dated observations always show their dates; read them as of that date.

Donation links

Nepal Relief Hub links directly to external organizations. It does not process donations, never sees payment details, and does not track whether anyone opens a donation link.

A donation link is published only when it uses HTTPS and its hostname exactly matches one of the official hostnames Nepal Relief Hub reviewers have recorded for that organization. The destination hostname is shown next to each donation button. This reduces the risk of look-alike addresses, but it does not guarantee that a destination is safe or how funds will be used. Check the destination yourself before giving.

Changes are not instant

Public pages are cached and refreshed about every five minutes, and also after a reviewer saves a change. A new or corrected record may take a few minutes to appear, and expired or withdrawn content may stay visible for a few minutes, occasionally longer. Nepal Relief Hub is not a real-time service.

What we do not claim

  • We do not independently verify events in the field.
  • We have not confirmed listings with every organization, and a listing does not mean an organization endorses Nepal Relief Hub.
  • We do not guarantee that any information is accurate or complete.
  • We do not guarantee the safety of any external website.
  • We do not control how any organization uses donated funds.

Treat the cited source as the authority, and see about this site.
